Originally started in the summer of 2003, Sleeping
Girl Drowning was a mutual effort put forth by two friends, Scott
Phillips and Jacob Tobar. Together they formed the creative
sound that not only defined SGD, but would eventually allow the
group to stand out in a saturated and stagnate central FL music
scene. After struggling for months to find a solid line-up, the band
was put in motion with the addition of bassist Jeremy Prez and
drummer
Cory Magamoll.
Soon after....Sleeping Girl Drowning erupted on the local music
scene with a known reputation for their thoughtful use of odd time,
powerful vocals and demanding live performances. Playing countless
shows, SGD embarked on several east coast tours and gained fans in
every direction they traveled. But eventually the real truths
of being in a band were tested. And due to personal conflicts and
overall differences in opinion. Cory Magamoll, who so brilliantly
accompanied the band called it quits in summer of 04'.
However, shortly after.....Brad McRae (Boys go to War) was
approached to join this dynamic group of musicians. And after
regrouping, things once again came together for this outstanding
band. After releasing their first and only EP "Respectfully, yours
in sicknesses" on Built on Strength Records...they again embarked on
what would become the bands last tour in the winter on 2004.
Shortly after New Years of 05' Sleeping Girl Drowning called it
quits. Lasting only a year and 4 months, SGD had what it took
to be a great up and coming band. They played countless shows all
over the eastern seaboard, opened for such acts as Braid,The Jealous
Sound and countless others....but no one will ever know what could
of came from their unique chemistry. SGD was like a gas soaked
match, once lit....it erupted violently in flames,
burning your hands and disappearing instantly...leaving only the
scar to remember it by. |
